JANGBRiCKS LEGO Shopping Mall complete!

My all-custom, ~10,000 piece, 48x96, two-story, 17-store enclosed LEGO shopping mall is complete at last!  Come on in & check it out!

Two new reviews, plus an update on mall video progress

First up, two new videos were posted last night, one Mega Bloks, one LEGO.

In addition, I made good progress on shot selection and an preliminary editing pass on the mall unveiling video.  I got through an entire floor!  Again, that's just preliminary work, but it feels like a moral win :)

Filming of the mall video is underway...

Thus far I have been actively filming this thing for just shy of 5 hours.  I'm at my computer now simply to offload a memory card full of 221 individual clips of footage so I can capture some more.  The good news is that I started from the outside and then the top, and I'm now approaching the last phase of filming the inside of the first floor!  I've done some pretty involved filming projects before, but this one is taking the complexity cake.

Update:  Six hours flat.  Six full hours of filming.  Three hundred and twenty-four individual video clips.  One mall.  One intense editing session (or two or three) to kick off after I take a much-needed break.

Final piece and a trial separation...

With the placement of the 1x1 dark bluish-gray tile pointed to by the weathered & wary finger above, my custom LEGO mall is complete*, three months after it began!  Since the whole thing didn't have a full roof over it until this afternoon, it needed a good dusting, so I took the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone, affecting my first "field strip" of the mall, peeling back the 8 tile-borne assemblies that stack on top of the first floor.

This was a confidence-boosting trial run for the unveiling video*, and it all happened without a hitch, even though this has never been fully tested until now!  I'm excited for the video, but it's gonna take awhile* to do it right*.  It'll give me an opportunity to test out some new equipment, too!


* As repeated many dozens of times, a video of the mall will be done when the mall is done. The mall is now done, and a video will now be done.  The video is not done.  The video will not be done in a second, or a minute, or an hour.  It will be done when it is done.  It will not be rushed, and harassing me to rush it will not cause me to finish it any sooner.  Your patience will be appreciated!  Thank you!

LEGO master parts inventory: 840 new pieces for Summer alone!

Brickset's excellent interface to the LEGO parts database updated yesterday, showing 840 new parts for summer wave sets alone, for a total of 2,151 this year so far.  That covers brand new, never-before-released molds, colors, and prints, within System, Technic, large action figure, and Duplo categories.  Can you imagine being responsible for managing all that?  What an incredible wealth of building tools LEGO is bringing out for us on a continual basis.
