LEGO Hero Factory MOC: "The Drone" from Rise of the Rookies
I finally saw the Hero Factory Rise of the Rookies "movie" (4-part TV miniseries rolled up into a DVD). In it are flashback sequences featuring a rookie Preston Stormer being betrayed by fellow rookie Von Ness (later to become Von Nebula). In this historical mission, led by Thresher, a giant maniacal robot is terrorizing New Stellac City. As soon as I saw that character, I recognized most of the major parts, and knew I had to have it.
I did not know at the time that character was based on a MOC that won a BZPower contest; I only just learned that while doing research to complete this post! It took many hours of tiresome eye straining at frozen frames of the movie to complete this creation. The movie character has many differences from the original MOC, and I based my version entirely upon that movie version, building it up part by part based on very little footage featuring some very obscure angles that presented more than a handful of very tough building challenges.
As it turns out, the movie Drone is not a very structurally stable character at all, once you build the "real" thing. As a result, I had to add a couple customizations to help it stand up. The heels are new and provide essential support, holding much of the weight of the MOC. Also added in are the secondary joints added horizontally behind the hips. I did my best to keep these deviations as discrete as possible. Check out the unveiling video:

Quite a fun build and looks great on display!

Congrats man, your just great!
ReplyDeleteAnd this MOC too! ^^
Awesome! At first I thought you were the best MoCist ever but then I read the full post and discovered it was someone else's MoC but your still really good at MoCing cause it takes skill to pull something like that and your other MoC's are awesome! Keep up the great work :)
ReplyDeleteLOL I was trying to make this too!
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing!Well done!
ReplyDeleteLove It! How Long Did It Take To Build?
ReplyDeleteGreat
ReplyDeleteFantastic MOC!
ReplyDeleteI'm Italian,but I like your site
DAMN THAT IS AMAZING JANG YOU ARE A GENIUS!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is great; I'm friends with the original MoCist, Varderan, and I think this is really awesome.
ReplyDeleteThe time you put into this must've been... well, a long time. :P
Great work.
cara mostra as instruções tio
ReplyDeleteHey JANG, it's patrinochan! Awesone build, and I can see where you added the extra little things to make it better. I remember seeing this on BZPower and thinking that I could build this. As it turns out, I can't. So....could you post instructions? Please? :D
ReplyDeleteBio Matheus, esse site é em inglês, e o cara que escreve nunca vai entender oq vc falou. Mas tudo bem, eu mando o recado: Jang, please, put instructions! =D
ReplyDeleteI really like if you give instructions, i know it could be annoing, but i too try to this and it was very hard. This could look Good on my table and give honour to you and Varderan.
ReplyDeleteSo could please even try to given instructions, or else I need to repeat your video all over and over again.
Thankyou for your patience.

Wow, this is the best rendition of my Moc that I've seen yet (and trust me, I've seen a few :P)
ReplyDeleteEven though you made changes and based most of it off the show (which made changes as well) I'd have to say it is incredibly accurate and the additions you made to the legs are very clever and well made.
Makes me happy that people enjoyed my Moc enough to build their own :)
-Varderan
Excuse me, varderan? hey, i'm a huge fan of your work, and i want to ask you something-
DeleteI'm currently working on a hero factory fanfiction story(which i do not intend to publish becouse it's just a hobby of mine), that takes place in the same universe of the HF tv series, and the main antagonist of my story is a malevolent artificial intelligence that had both created and remotly controlled the Drone(the series' rendition of your MOC,Silver).
Now, why am i telling you this?well, since the series' rendition of your MOC was never officialy named Silver, i would like you to tell me if you allow me to name the A.I.(in my story) himself Silver, concidering the fact that i have already designed myself a number of Mocs to serve as bodies for him( and each one of them looks VERY different from your Moc, so rest assure that i do not wish to steal from you anything, at all).
Please give me your honest opinion, i'm realy impressed by your work, and i'll respect whatever you'll decide.
Imagine that thing going strait for herofactory.
ReplyDeleteThat is so big those guns could take down Herofactory dropships!
Cool!!! I want to build that thing! i want the instructions for that thing!
ReplyDeletePretty sweet. It would be cooler if you made a how to vid on youtube.
ReplyDeleteSweet build, that must have took a lot of time and hard work! I wish I had the pieces to build something like this! I'm more into the little lego stuff, not so much the bionicle type. But now I'm getting into hero factory.
ReplyDeleteNice work!
Sincerely, 3121Ultrasound
I know you've heard this many times before, but is there a chance you could somehow make a how-to???
ReplyDeleteF.Y.I. someone on Lego.com has stolen this and posted it as their own. I thought you'd want to know.
