Ready for part deux of 2015
Today I released my last review of the major release season sets from LEGO. Quite unexpectedly, I also published my 500th video of the year on the JANGBRiCKS channel (plus my 42nd on my Playmobil channel). According to my collection list at Brickset, I've also now reviewed more 2015 LEGO sets (270+) than 2014 sets, even though we're just past the halfway mark of this year! I knew I had improved productivity, but nearly doubling it blows away my own self-set expectations.
Of course, it's easy to forget that during this same 6 month & 17 day period, I also shopped for a house, bought a house, got all manner of work done on that house, packed up the contents of the previous house (including four brick-built layouts and my studio), moved those contents into the new house, and got everything set back up here.
The story continues...
There are more Summer sets to review yet, as I'll be covering Minecraft & Scooby Doo, plus the remainder of the latest Mega Bloks Halo line and their new Call of Duty sets. However, with the major push at its end, for now, I once again find myself contemplating possibilities for improvement. Video quality has to improve, always; that's a given. Quantity, on the other hand, clearly does not.
What I feel is most important to work on in this second half of 2015 is New JANG City. Sure, having to tear down the old cities & develop a new layout (more new than it appears) caused a long pause in progress. Sure, I built up my brand new drawbridge & Minecraft Nether display & set up displays for all of the Jurassic World, City-Space, and deep sea exploration sets. Those are all nice. I'm happy with them. I just want to do more, faster.
I want to get my dang hospital done. I want to build up (and down) my Planetary Defense Force structures and develop more vehicles & spacecraft. I want to get my first skyscraper or two underway. By golly, I want to build more trains, too! It's easy to question why I haven't just worked on this stuff all along, but I hope it's equally easy to reference the first two paragraphs above for the definitive answer. Also consider that the build and review of even a large "collector series" set can be accomplished in one long day if I fully focus on it. Putting all of my effort into a large MOC project, on the other hand, could result in a total cessation of all video uploads for weeks.
Thankfully the seasonal cool-down of new product releases will afford me some compromise-free, quality time at the MOC table. As previously, I'll seek to keep review fans moderately satiated by falling back on older sets, which I'll churn through at a calculated, reduced rate. The subtle evolution of my video styles will continue unabated. Who knows, I might even find a way to resurrect some form of my oft-rumored Mega Bloks Halo diorama that the move forced me to terminate before it was ready to show off.
Of course, before you know it, the next big release season will be upon us, but until then, I plan to have even more fun than usual with a whole lot of little plastic blocks.
