LEGO Ninjago City Docks reviews 70657

At long last I got my hands on one of these at a reasonable price from overseas, weeks after its initial release, yet still some time before it graces retail shelves in the Western Hemisphere.  It does not stand up to the huge presence of the main Ninjago City before it, but I believe it packs an even greater density of detail, making it a very worthy standalone product.

LEGO Ninjago season 9 "Hunted" set reviews underway

Thanks to a Brickset notification I decided to try out UK-based IWOOT.com and quickly discovered they offered reasonable shipping prices to the US for in-stock merchandise.  Since the global pendulum of LEGO fan pain & envy swung in Europe's & Asia's favor this season, I was happy to find a retail source for some of the Ninjago sets the Americas won't widely receive until August.  They didn't have the ONI Titan or Destiny's Wing in stock at the time I placed my order.  I'll get them later.

LEGO Ninjago Movie Piranha Attack review 70629

Props to the designer of this set for using a host of the big specialized heli/airplane fuselage parts in a completely new way, that completely works!

LEGO Ninjago "garmadon, Garmadon, GARMADON" set review 70656

A little bit of the spirit of Benny from the original LEGO Movie lives on in at least the title of this walking, large, yet miniaturized shark mech set.  This is definitely one of those times I do not envy LEGO designers, the development of this set being plagued by so many battling restrictions & requirements.  Against very difficult odds, I think they did about as good as anyone could reasonably ask.

Ninjago City 70620 vs. LEGO Creator modular buildings

This was a contextual comparison just begging to be made, so I took a few minutes to quickly make it happen.  It looks a lot better than I thought it would, actually, and almost seems like it could make sense in the fanciful world of LEGO.

LEGO Ninjago City build & review videos 70620

My latest two-day building & reviewing excursion has been dedicated to what I believe is the single largest & most detailed made-for-minifigs set yet.  It was time well spent and I look forward to harvesting many of these juicy delicious new parts for reuse!

LEGO Ninjago Movie Master Falls review 70608

I've become so accustomed to LEGO's inclusion of transformative play features in nearly ever set that when there are none, I almost don't know how to react.  Is this real life?

LEGO Juniors Ninjago Movie Shark Attack review 10739

I would expect a Juniors set for a LEGO movie to mostly recycle existing elements & themes with really simple builds, but this one introduces some pretty nice prints and has a decent amount of play value.

LEGO Ninjago Movie Spinjitzu Training review 70606

The LNM theme needs more truly small, impulse buy style sets like this!  Well let's be honest, every theme does :)

LEGO Ninjago Movie Manta Ray Bomber review 70609

This set left me with the most unusual feeling that LEGO included too much and would have been better trimmed back with less details & features.

LEGO Ninjago Movie Lightning Jet review 70614

This is nice!  A different look, a different build, very high swooshability, a feature-rich compact bad guy vehicle, and a good selection of figures.

LEGO Ninjago Movie mini Ice Tank polybag review! 30427

This thing is like high art for the incredibly restrictive constraints placed upon polybag set design, with a low part count and extreme ease of assembly required.  I definitely could not have done better, myself.

LEGO Ninjago Movie Garma Mecha Man build & review 70613

They should have released a puppymonkeybaby set instead.

See the video.

It'll all make sense.

Maybe.

LEGO Ninjago Movie Destiny's Bounty build & review 70618

Bravo, LEGO, bravo.  With the notable exception of one missing type of detail, this is close to perfection for a set that has to be buildable by the mass market.

LEGO Ninjago Movie Temple of the Ultimate Ultimate Weapon review 70617

Here's another of the larger sets from the first wave of the Ninjago Movie theme.  Its aspect ratio is completely different from what I was expecting based on the box art!  One dimension is much greater than anticipated, but another is disappointingly average at best.

LEGO Ninjago Movie Cole's Quake Mech polybag review 30379

What a tease, LEGO can be!  Previously they released the 4-stud-wide minature London Bus as a promotional item, and only months later did they come out with the real deal.  I'm 95% certain we'll be witnessing the same pattern with this mech, and I'm eager to see how they solve the monowheel stability challenge on the big one.

LEGO Ninjago Movie set reviews so far

LEGO releasing whole themes worth of sets yet again at LEGOLAND locations and nowhere else, not even normal LEGO brand stores, has put (or rather kept) me at a tremendous forced disadvantage. Many viewers asked for weeks when I'd review the new stuff when other people already have it all, why I wasn't reviewing the new stuff when other reviewers were already done.  Well, I don't happen to live within a convenient distance of one of the two places in the entire country to actually sell any of the new sets, so all I can do is either wait, or pay big markups & shipping fees on eBay and wait.  Perhaps I should get a hotel in either San Diego or Florida two weeks before every release season.  Yes, I am salty.  Very salty.  I don't like having no fair chance to do good work on a timely basis.

I got something related to the LEGO Ninjago Movie!

In spite of LEGO's completely wack release schedule decisions (which I rant about at the end of this video), I have in my possession an official Ninjago Movie item!  Take THAT, LEGO!  You think you can keep 99.999% of the world's population from having a fair opportunity to purchase your merchandise when you first officially release it?  Ha! Your Grinch-like plans have been foiled!

LEGO Ninjago City set 70620 revealed, nearly 5000 pieces!

LEGO uploaded details of the new largest Ninjago set ever (and one of the most complex sets of all time) on Facebook overnight, and Brickset has us covered as always:

I will review the set once it's released.  As usual, I will not do a video that just shows a slideshow of shrunken, twice re-encoded (reduced quality) versions of the pictures.  Hit the links above to see the full original LEGO description and a convenient gallery of full original quality, zoomable photos that you can browse at your own pace!
